We at Hume Media Inc. were very pleased to be able to hand over to MS Society a cheque for $24,600!

The cars have rolled across the finish line and the 2013 Targa Newfoundland race has come to a close. The champaign bottles have been popped and amply poured all over the winning drivers and copilots of Hume Team!

Craig MacMullen and Justin Russell placed 2nd, Grand Touring Equipped

John Jr. and Ron Bartleet placed 2nd, Modern

AND STILL MORE AWARDS!:

Sadly John Sr. and Justin Crant, car #1888, won the Puffin Award for first car wreck of the race. A dubious honour to carry around for the next year to be sure.

John Jr. and Ron Bartleet, car #9, captured a silver plate for making all their Targa times.

John Jr. and Ron Bartleet, car #9, also placed 1st in Group 7 Modern division

Our three podium placed cars won the Jerry Churchill Team Award for teams of three nominated entries from any combination of divisions, all cars registered in the same country.

Justin Crant, not able to race as co-pilot in the wrecked #1888 moved on to the critical job of service crew for our M3 team in car #9. Justin also assisted other competitors who needed service help. He was so good at it, (without him the M3 we discovered, surely would have had a catastrophic suspension failure during a race). Justin won the Best Service Crew Award.

So, despite ruining one fine automobile, we still managed to win eight awards.

Anyone interested in buying a slightly used but winning racer (a 2011 BMW 335is) contact John Hume.

A heart felt thanks to our video and service crew members. Michael Engel, Calvin Williams and Rein Raamat. They took excellent care of the racing crews, shot some incredible video, wrote some magnificent script, narrated the same and uploaded to YouTube daily. An almost impossible feat!

Well the cars have rolled across the finish line and the 2013 Targa Newfoundland race has come to a close. The champaign bottles have been popped open and amply poured all over the three winning Hume teams.

Despite John Sr and Justin Crant’s nasty meeting with the tree and fence last Sunday, the team as a whole wound up raking in the lion’s share of awards this Saturday at the closing ceremony and banquet.
1) Sadly John Sr.and Justin Crant won the Puffin Award for first car wreck of the race. A dubious honor to carry around for the next year to be sure.
2) John Jr and Ron Bartleet won a silver plate for making all their targa times.
3) John Jr and Ron Bartleet also placed 2nd in the modern division and 2nd overall in the Targa division.
4) Craig and Justin Russell finished 2nd overall on GT
5) Jon and Briar finished 1st overall in GT.
6) Despite our BMW 335is being destroyed in the prologue, our 3 car team of BMWs placed the highest overall in a manufacturer (driving BMWs), so we won the Kenzie Cup
7) We entered our three winning cars as a 3 car team before the race started, and so won the Jerry Churchill Team Award.
8) Justin Crant, now not able to race in the ruined 335is, moved on to the critical job of service crew for our 2nd place M3. And he assisted other competitors who needed service help. He was so good at it, (without him the M3 we discovered, surely would have had a catastrophic suspension failure during a race). Justin won the Best Service Crew award.

So despite ruining one fine automobile, we still managed to win 8 awards.

Hi from Marystown

Thursday was a great day for rallying. Lots of sun mixed with cloud and wind and temperatures hovering around 15 C.

No accidents today to speak of. A few close calls though.

John Jr and Ron B. in car #9 hold a solid second place standing in Modern Division as of end of day. They have one of the three quickest cars here at this event this year to be sure.

Meantime in GT class Craig and Justin car #1333 are two seconds up on Jon and Briar car #1135. These two are neck and neck in this race. It is anyone’s guess as to who will finish on top. The third place car has too many penalty seconds accumulated already to be a real threat.

Friday will be a tense day in GT class.

Hello from the Rock

Wednesday was another rock em sock em crash bang kind of day here.

The Provincial Works Dept here decided to replace the TCP #1 as we had to transit to our first race of the day. As a result many competitor’s tires became retreaded with a thick layer of fresh tar. As a result many on the first race of the day had minimal traction and drove off the course or crashed.

However, John Jr and Ron in their M3 #9 are doing very well. They managed to keep it on the road and are near the top in their division. Same can be said for Jon and Briar in # 1135 and Craig and Justin in # 1333 both sit at the top of the GT class.

The last two races of the day through Clarenville went off on time and were a blast to watch.
