Targa Newfoundland 2017

Monday September 11th, 2017 Targa NL Day 1

If anyone is reading this….You are probably best off to see pictures and short stories from our team mates posted on Facebook each day and during the day. Check out Christina Kroner, Ruth Thorogood, Briar de Lange all on Facebook!
But here goes from me.
All 20 odd team members arrived safely and on time – a first !
Tech inspections and prologue practice Sunday went off without a hitch.
And now Day one is finished. All 6 cars made it through the day successfully. We had rain by the bucket loads today. However all races were run on time and quite successfully. Hume team spirits are very high. Our GT cars are standing 1,2,3,…for now, changeable by the day of course. John Jr and Justin Crant are in top spot in Modern with Jon Riddell/Briar de Lange in 4th. We did have some electromechanical issues to deal with on both M3s and the 2006 MINI. All as of 9:00 PM tonight have been resolved. Poor Ralph keeps getting flat tires on his rental van. Two in two days! He is just plain cursed when it comes to vans…
That is it until tomorrow PM.
short but sweet.

Two weeks today the real racing begins!
Almost a full year in preparation, our largest race contingent ever.
We have six cars with 12 crew and 10 additional support crew, for 22 total team members this year.
I think this might just be the single largest race team ever entered in a Motor Sport event – hmm,,,

We pack off and transport five of six vehicles from our HQ in Toronto this Thursday.
Craig is driving his car from Halifax next week.

We are as prepared as we can be, having completed our route book math this past weekend.
It was a 6.5 hour marathon of number crunching. Necessary when racing GT, if you want to have any chance of winning.

On raising funds for M S and The Red Door, we stand at almost $26,000 pledged to our team to date this year.
And now are over $200,000 pledged or collected since we started doing this event years ago!

Our next Blog will be from the Rock around about September 10th…

Until then – Cheers
From Team Hume
