Targa Newfoundland 2017

By

Wednesday August 3rd

37 days to go, then we are off to Newfoundland for the Rally around the Rock for MS.
We hosted our sponsor appreciation track Day Saturday July 30th.
The weather was perfect and the track was in excellent condition.
We had  40 people out to drive or be driven around the Driver Development Track at Canadian Tire Motor sport track (formerly Mosport).
A great time was had by all (aside form a few queasy stomachs).
Those who chose to drive and were first timers, received some excellent  coaching on proper seating, steering, braking and cornering techniques from the instructors we had on hand.
Those in attendance now have a very good idea what we as drivers and co-pilots go through when driving 48 odd races we run in Newfoundland. It is no wonder we each come back about 10 pounds lighter for the experience.!
Again a thanks to our sponsors.
To date we have collected over  $19,000 in M S donations.
Next blog will be when we hit St John’s
Cheers,
John Hume

Hello From Team Hume

Here we go for the 8th time – preparing to race Targa Newfoundland. You would think we be bored with this event by now! Absolutely not! We are racing the same four cars again this year.

There are more changes in this year’s roster. There are two new to racing faces this year.  Taking charge of car #1334 (the 2006 MINI GP) are Andrew & Ruth Thorogood. They plan to test the mettle of their marriage in September! Car #1333 (the 2013 MINI GP), will be driven by John Hume Sr. and Co-piloted by Christina Kroner. Car #333 will be Co-Driven & Co-Piloted by both Craig MacMullen &  Ron Bartleet

Yes, these two are also sharing both roles.

Centennial College has decided they want to give us four service crew this year. So we are in really good hands as far as mechanics go! And three lucky Centennial students get a real life experience in the pit lane for a week. We are eternally grateful for that effort from the College.

Lastly, we have a new support crew/photographer joining our team this year, Ralph Saulnier. He is no stranger to Targa, having been the “Official” photographer to the event these past many years.

With the required paperwork mostly done now, all hands signed up, we are anticipating our first practice track day at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport) April 24th.

Toronto event: Hume’s rally team will be hosting the Targa Booth at Motorama 2016 at the International Centre (south east corner of Airport and Derry Roads) Saturday March 12th. Pop in and pay us a visit!

All for now,

John Hume.
